美国太平洋时间11月14日(北京时间11月15日)消息，劳伦斯-伯克利(lawrence berkeley)实验室和曼海姆大学(mannheim)星期四联合发布了一份全球最快的500台超级计算机排名目录。此目录每年更新两次，以各家公司生产的超级计算机的性能为衡量标准进行排名。目前，由于惠普公司推出了一台用于模拟核爆炸的超级计算机，因此该公司超级计算机在这一目录中的排名有所提升。
惠普公司的asci q系统中有两个程序段，是作为美国能源部高级模拟和计算程序的一部分设计的，设计的主要目的是用于替代核试验中普通计算机的计算程序。该公司由于为超级计算机产品设计了这两个程序段，所以在超级计算机500强目录中占到了第二和第三的位置。这些新系统是在洛斯-阿拉莫斯國家试验室制作的，将ibm公司的asci white系统在500强目录中的两个位置取代了。目前，nec公司的地球模拟器系统(earth simulator)仍占据着第一的位置，该系统的整体计算能力要比每个asci q程序段的计算能力高出近五倍。
惠普公司在超级计算机500强的目录上有138个位置，其计算机的绝对数量要超过ibm公司，但是ibm公司计算机的整体运算能力要超过惠普公司。换句话说，ibm制作了较少的系统，但其在目录上有排名的134台机器的总体运算性能却比较高。ibm公司计算机的总体处理能力在2002年6月超级计算机目录中占有33%的位置，在2002年11月的目录中占有39%的位置，并呈现稳定增长的势头。惠普公司计算机总体运算能力在目录中占有份额始终保持在22%的标准。(新浪）
